WHAT PLAN SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?

There are so many diet plans out there it might seem impossible to choose one for you. To make things worse, it seems like many experts and popular diets programs contradict each other. The truth is that most plans will probably help you loose weight, but that doesn’t necessarily mean its healthy for you. Dieting for wellness is about changing your bad eating habits for life. You don’t want to change one bad eating habit for another with some goofy diet plan that doesn’t give your body the nourishment it needs. Whether your goal is to lose weight or just to maintain a healthy body I believe the key to a good diet plan should start with good nutrition and daily activity. The rest will take care of itself. Eat more fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, chicken, fish, and even enjoy a steak on occasion rather then a hamburger. Avoid canned and processed foods, fried foods, and sugars as much as possible, and don’t drink your calories. These are simple common sense things that we all know, but we are looking for some kind of miracle diet. Most “miracle” diets don’t work because they are too expensive, too restrictive, or too complicated to maintain long term. Get yourself a few healthy cookbooks and go back to the basics. If you feel like you need to do more, which I don’t think you will, then see about cutting your portion size down a little.HAVE A BACKUP PLAN.

The last thing you want to do is blowup your diet running for fast food because you don’t have time to make a meal. Dieting is like drinking. Once you fall off the wagon it’s hard to get back on. Find a variety of healthy meals and snacks that you actually enjoy eating, and make sure you have some quick meals that you can take on the go. Don’t make it overly complicated. If you are trying to cook a bunch of new meals with lots of ingredients that you wouldn’t normally use, then you will burn out on it pretty quick. Try to find recipes that are within your skill level as a cook and have common and interchangeable ingredients. I also find that having a healthy low cal fast food standby can get you out of a bind. If I absolutely have to get fast food I go for a grilled chicken sandwich, no cheese. Either just the sandwich or in a meal with side salad and a bottle of water.

TIME TO TAKE ACTION!

Even with a plan in your head you still need resources to help you achieve your plan. Having a couple healthy cookbooks is a good start. There are also some great programs you can join to help keep you on track. No excuses! Lets get started today!
